Detroit, MI (Friday, September 4, 2015) – The Great Lakes Education Project (GLEP) and State Senator David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights) today provided all 120 students at Detroit Achievement Academy a backpack filled with school supplies at the school’s ‘Back to School’ open house event.
“Every parent deserves the freedom to choose the best school possible for their child, and every child should be adequately prepared to go ‘back to school’ and succeed,” said Gary Naeyaert, Executive Director of GLEP.
Detroit Achievement Academy rose to fame in 2014 with an appearance on the Ellen Show and subsequent support from musician Madonna. It’s no surprise they’ve received such attention as their school-wide average growth was in the 99th percentile nationally. The ‘back to school’ open house will also signify the opening of their new campus located at 7000 W Outer Dr in Detroit.
“Every student deserves the opportunity to learn and excel without the worry of being properly supplied and prepared,” explained Senator David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights). “That’s why I am glad to help supply every child at Detroit Achievement with a backpack and school supplies for the 2015 school year,” he continued.
“We were so honored and thrilled to have The Great Lakes Education Project and Senator Knezek at our open house! They are setting our students up for success in such an important way and we are so very appreciative,” said Kyle Smitley, DAA school leader.
Detroit Achievement Academy’s ‘Back to School’ night was held from 3:00 – 6:00 pm today at their new campus, which is located at 7000 W Outer Dr., Detroit MI 48235.
