Across Michigan we’ve spent the last three months getting back to basics. More time with family. Less time (read: no time) in the office. Tight quarters and fewer activities.
At GLEP, we’re focused on the “basics,” too. The simple truth is that pro-student, pro-teacher reforms that put kids first in education don’t happen without brave leaders in the state legislature willing to stand up for local families.
That’s why over the past three months, GLEP has been on-the-job, talking with candidates and vetting their positions.
We’re proud now to offer a series of critical endorsements in races this fall for the state House of Representatives. Thus far, we’ve given this important nod to 51 individuals.

“Beth DeShone, executive director of the Great Lakes Education Project, a charter school advocacy group, said Michigan trails the rest of the nation with no plans to reopen schools.
“She said school buildings have been closed for more than two months, and districts statewide have submitted “continuity of learning plans” for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, but Whitmer and the state education department have yet to provide any public direction for the upcoming school year.”
“We need to make sure Governor Whitmer is providing clear guidance and a plan so districts can begin doing their work on the ground… so kids can get back in the classroom.”
“How worried Michigan parents are about their kids returning to school in the fall largely depends on if they’re Republicans or Democrats, according to a new poll by an education advocacy group.”
